Appalachia is one of the most biodiverse temperate regions in the world, home to rare and threatened species, an essential “water tower” for the eastern United States, a carbon sink, and a key migratory corridor for plants and animals.
With an explicit state mandate to conduct research to inform real-world outcomes, the Appalachian Laboratory delivers actionable solutions for Appalachia and the broader regional watersheds it sustains. TALIN funding connects committed philanthropists with Appalachian Laboratory scientists, helping to shape the future of Appalachia.
Over $700,000 of TALIN seed capital is already unlocking breakthroughs across the region, empowering Appalachian Laboratory scientists to answer key early questions, collect pilot data, and scale solutions rapidly, creating real-world solutions related to air and water, wildlife and fisheries, and forests and agriculture in Appalachia.
