Addressing the impacts of a changing climate on natural systems

UMCES scientists are deeply engaged in better understanding the drivers and consequences of a rapidly changing climate, globally and locally, to help society prepare for the future. This work involves monitoring rising sea levels and studying mitigation strategies, measuring the effects of warming and ocean acidification, predicting shifting weather patterns, and engaging with communities to understand the effects on both natural ecosystems and human infrastructure.

By providing high-quality data and resilience-focused solutions, co-produced with local, regional, national, and global organizations, UMCES scientists aim to inform policy decisions and help communities adapt to the environmental challenges posed by a warming planet.
