UMCES Appalachian Laboratory hosts annual undergraduate internship program

Each summer, the Appalachian Laboratory Summer Undergraduate Internship Program hosts five to eight students from local universities and colleges for full-time, paid experiences in research and science communication. The summer 2026 application opens Monday, November 24, and can be found at www.umces.edu/al/internships.

UMCES Honors Dr. Emily Cohen with President’s Award for Excellence in Application of Science

Dr. Emily Cohen, Associate Professor at University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s (UMCES) Appalachian Laboratory, has been named the recipient of the 2025 UMCES President’s Award for Excellence in Application of Science. This honor recognizes her exceptional contributions to applied science in the fields of wildlife migration and conservation.

Appalachian Lab awards 2025 Inspiration Award to Mick Burkett
