AL Faculty Offer Invasive Species Management Course
In the fall of 2021, Appalachian Laboratory faculty members Katia Engelhardt and Emily Cohen led a new Issue Study Group course on Invasive Species Management in Maryland. The class explored how invasive species ecology and research informs on-the-ground management across Maryland from the mountains to the sea.
Last fall, Appalachian Laboratory faculty members Katia Engelhardt and Emily Cohen led a new Issue Study Group course on Invasive Species Management in Maryland through the Marine-Estuarine Environmental Science (opens in a new tab) graduate program of the University System of Maryland. The class explored how invasive species ecology and research informs on-the-ground management across Maryland from the mountains to the sea. Towards this goal, participants spoke with a range of organizations and managers engaged in invasive species science and management around the state. The students worked with managers to develop case studies of invasive management for specific species and management briefs on an issue related to ecosystem-wide management within Maryland’s natural communities.
